Visitors can explore the work both from the outside and from within and experience this innovative and especially inclusive way of making art to raise environmental awareness.
This is the ForLife installation by Luca Gnizio, on display in Brescia, Capital of Culture 2023. A unique experience, which transcends and rewrites the concept of beauty in no uncertain terms to show that waste, produced in abundance by the fabric of the local economy, is the new raw material. In the middle is the tree of life, which feeds and thrives on that fabric.
With an artistic gesture that is more than simple reuse, companies can exchange the waste they inevitably produce for beauty. Each company's commitment to recycling in this environmental synergy will generate the "lifeblood" to keep the tree alive.
How a work of art comes into being - FORLIFE: from refuse to the synergy to protect nature
Created for the Brescia Chamber of Commerce for the FUTURA BRESCIA 2023 trade fair, Luca Gnizio's work is the first environmental and inclusive work of art ever created for a trade fair.
The huge steel structure cube measuring 6x6x6 meters features framework for the container-displays of salvaged material. The installation is dominated by a tall, living tree, whose roots are suspended within and can be seen up close by visitors using one of the four entrances to the cube, which can also accommodate special installations. Using energy accumulated by solar panels, the work lights up the evening, making the overall effect even more spectacular.
The installation will remain on display outside the Brixia Forum for a year and will enable participation in its creation from a wide variety of local manufacturers, who all share the determination to show that when it comes to protecting the environment, synergy can make a difference. Sponsors will each have a 2x2x2 meter cube, with 10 2x2 meter nets, to customise with their own waste materials. A number of rehabilitation communities will be actively involved in assembling the materials inside the container-displays.
Art as a means of supporting Brescia's candidacy for the European Green Capital 2025.
Manufacturers interested in donating waste materials to the creation of the work and the sponsorship opportunities available should contact the artist, Luca Gnizio, by email for further information and details about how to get involved.
